A long time chemical manufacturer in OH was experiencing an ongoing oil issue that they couldn’t sort out a solution to. There was a small oil leak in an onsite dike that was causing a sheen on the collected storm water. The company needed a solution that would operate on a constant basis and reached out to Abanaki for help. Abanaki knew right off the bat that the size of pit would determine which skimmer to use. If it were smaller in size, the Tote-It would be the best option. However, the pit ended up being rather large so the Abanaki salesman suggested the rugged and durable Model 4.
The Model 4 belt oil skimmer utilizes a continuous belt and wiper to remove up to 20 gallons of oil per hour from the fluid surface. The belt, operating on a motor and pulley system, runs through contaminated liquid to pick up oil from the surface. After traveling over the head pulley, the belt passes through tandem wiper blades where oil is scraped off both sides of the belt and discharged. The tail pulley has flanges which allow it to roll freely on the inside of the belt without becoming dislodged. It requires no bearings and does not need to be fastened to the tank. If turbulent conditions exist, an optional tether and cage assembly prevents the tail pulley from being dislodged.
Since using the Model 4, the company has been able to carry on with its operation without having to worry about the collection of oil in the dike. Plant operators are pleased with the continuous oil retrieval of the Model 4 and the minimal maintenance and surveillance it needs.
